by Marie Basarich | Aug 26, 2014
Today, inventory management, billing for services rendered and the medical items dispensed to patients can present challenges for Durable Medical Equipment firms. According to Pittman: “Our system is extraordinarily passive and easy to use for clinicians which is crucial as hospitals continue to outsource their durable medical equipment needs to 3rd parties.”

DeRoyal Industries, Inc. announced today their latest patent on a novel solution to increase business efficiency for Durable Medical Equipment firms.

According to company President & COO Bill Pittman: “Our Continuum® system automatically reorders durable medical equipment when the product is removed from its storage bin and correctly associates the product with the fitter, the patient and the billing codes while automatically replenishing inventory.”

Durable Medical Equipment firms dispense prosthetics, orthotics and supplies as defined by the Department of Health and Human Services and its Center for Medicare Services (CMS) as medical devices and are typically reimbursable under Part B of the U.S. Medicare health care program. These products are provided to patients who receive outpatient treatment for certain health problems that do not require inpatient admission to a hospital or other healthcare institution.

The Patent is U.S. Patent Number 8,818,824, which issued on August 26th, 2014, is entitled “Automated System for Medical Item Dispensing, Billing, and Inventory Management.” Other patent applications are pending. The inventors named in the recent DeRoyal patent include CEO Brian DeBusk, President & C.O.O. Bill Pittman, Vice-President of Information Technology Angie Sewell, Vice-President of Marketing Greg Hodge as well as Manager of Advanced Technologies Kevin Lynch and Director of Technical Services John Jacobs.
